In order to prevent and reduce the risk of sexual offending in Victoria, vota will promote the development of a consistent, well informed approach to the behaviour, treatment and management of sex offenders.

vota was founded in 1994 from an initiative by the Victorian Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (now known as Australians Against Child Abuse), in response to requests for a forum to exchange information and knowledge on sex offending and its impact.

vota has evolved into a non-profit incorporated organisation which functions through a management committee which comprises the general membership and from which the officers are elected biannually. The offices consist of Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and Vice-Chairperson.
